Tales from the howitzer.
Author: MikeFavorite weapon? I think I might have to say the howitzer. Oh man, that thing is nasty!
I love just laying into the other team with the howitzer because it just makes them so pissed! You do have to be careful because after some pounding on their helmets, killing you becomes their only goal.
I was playing on Harvest Day and I started as a sniper. I like to be the sniper on these large wooded maps because there are so many opportunities for great kills.
Well, no one hopped on the howitzer so I did. A note about that... way, way, way too many team kills when someone gets jealous about the howitzer. Get over it. Someone else got to it first, let them have some fun.
As the sniper, I almost didn't want to get in it because I'm all ghillied up but here I am in this artillery death machine for all the world to see. But still, I love it!
Right when that satellite view came up I started scanning for targets. I have a few different strategies and they vary from game to game; go for tanks first or infantry... Well, I usually scout for snipers. If they are good, I can't find them. But even a bad sniper can drop some JDAM's on us so I'd rather take them out. Tanks second. Also, destroying cover helps them not hide as well.
I'm just so excited I'll just spit out the ending right now! I played the whole game on the howitzer! 13 kills, 0 deaths. I was knocking out their vehicles left and right, and opening up their buildings so my squad could advance easier.
Not one person came to contest me! Being Harvest Day (the map), the range of the howitzer is incredible. The range totally allows you to play the entire game from the howitzer seat if you are so inclined.
We won that round. Attackers FTW! Now it's our turn for defense. I wanted to make sure they wouldn't do the same thing so I started as a sniper and made my way to the edge of the map, advancing to their base. Well, I got killed quite a few times so I had to keep changing runs.
Eventually I made it down to their base. After scouting for a while (and praying that no one would spawn on me) I figured out that the howitzer operator was the only enemy around. Probably because they already destroyed our first 2 crates.
Boom! Headshot.
Now, instead of running up and hopping in right away, I wanted to make sure there was no one else around. Throwing sensor! All clear.
I take my reins on the big gun once again. I started knocking them out one by one but soon they realized what I've done. They got in an armored car and started driving toward me. For the life of my I couldn't properly line them up for a good hit. They were getting closer and I couldn't stop them so I left the howitzer and ran to the bushes.
I had a good visual and they started unloading on the howitzer but I wasn't there. I waited till one hopped in the seat and got myself another headshot. I was trying to get the support guy but he was moving around too much, then went out of view. Then he took off running. Apparently he spawned another support guy and they blew up the howitzer with a mortar strike. I took out their car with my JDAM in the mean time.
I went around their base for a better view but they were already running through the field back into battle. I got one injured but couldn't kill one as they ran. So I was stuck there, having to run my way back up to the front lines. The rest of the game was unventful. As anything would be when compared to my awesome run on the attackers side!
